Poetry (102)

Lachrymology

It’ll begin easily.

With a text usually –

In which one or other

Of my friends will say.

“I cried yesterday.”

To which the inane response is always

“Did you? I hope it was a good cry.”

But what cry is ever good?

While the reason for it

Is rarely sought,

(At least not too deeply)

Still the vulnerability of it

Is completely understood –

What I mean is:

I wish you the catharsis

Of tears

More than the experience.

And I hope

That peace and silence

(Rather than an endless

Charybdis of pain)

Reign as a consequence.
