Poetry (74)

Laid Out

You are not as you were,

But Other.

You are shrunken

Dried like a paper doll

Or rather,

Brittle vellum

That somehow still

Holds its shape.

I picture

A tiny Thumbelina

Of a soul

That once lived inside this

Cavernous walnut.

A date pit

Holding a husk.

A seed

Planted at dusk:

As fast as we can,

(As says tradition)

We assume

To help you

To bloom

In heaven.
