Poetry (38)

Hello Escritori,

Funnily enough I was watching a lot of battle scenes in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett when this poem came to me. The visual is of an interior arch with Arabic calligraphy in the Alhambra Palace in Granada and includes the word ‘Allah.’

Hope

The tyranny

Of Humanity

Is equal only

To its capacity

For love.

How rank is it

Then, with perversity

That the worse

Is valued

More greatly by Man?

Although it is tarnished

It shines somehow

Like a virtue,

More than the other

That is rarer

And truer.

Consider that, with regret

In the face of adversity,

Yet for all with eyes to see

There exists

One mercy:

That whether half,

Or full grown,

Hope

Stands for you, circumspect

As a sentinel

On an uncertain path.

And that angel

Alone,

For you

Is left.
